Moldova are an improved side compared to recent years and are edging closer towards competitiveness. The home side still suffered a 4-0 defeat against Wales in their opening qualifier however.

Moldova are used to being on the losing end of results and have lost 8 out of 10 Euro 2016 qualifiers. At home Moldova tend to struggle and have suffered defeat in all 5 of their home matches when trying to qualify for the Euros. Interestingly, they seem to play better away from home! Abroad they’ve managed to secure a point in each of their games against Russia (1-1) and Liechtenstein (1-1).

During Euro 2016 qualification, Moldova only managed to score 2 goals at home and taking all this into account, Ireland have a real opportunity to come away with 3 points.

However, the home side also didn’t concede more than 2 goals in a single qualifying match for the same tournament. At times Moldova can prove tricky to break down but I have confidence in Ireland!

Ireland had a good Euro 2016, whereby they managed to beat Italy (1-0) and also drew with Sweden (1-1) on route to the last 16. Martin O’Neill’s side’s tournament eventually came to an end against France (2-1), although there were many positives to take from the tournament.

On their travels Ireland have a mixed bag of results, but won against Georgia (2-1) and Gibraltar (4-0) away from home in Euro 2016 qualifying, who are of a similar level to Moldova. Ireland also defeated Germany 1-0 on home soil, with Shane Long scoring the goal on that occasion – a huge result!

Ireland have shown that they can compete with some of the best sides in Europe and as a result, they will be disappointed to come out of this match with anything other than a win.

In their first World Cup qualifier Ireland drew 2-2 with Serbia. Jeff Hendrick and Daryl Murphy both scored and the Burnley man is playing particularly well for his club at present.

Moldova’s form at home is poor, not that their away form is much better! The Republic of Ireland should win this game comfortably and therefore I recommend backing Ireland -1 on the Asian Handicap betting market, as I think the away side will win by at least 2 goals.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Republic of Ireland -1 at 2.01 with Eastbridge Soccer Betting Broker

Prices correct at time of writing.
