Athletic Bilbao v Villarreal Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Sunday 20th November by @J_RKeith

Athletic Bilbao v Villarreal – San Mames Stadium at 19:45 live on Sky Sports 5

Well, it’s been a while since I done my last Asian Handicap Betting pick for a La Liga encounter, and this time around it will be a thriller of a match as Athletic Bilbao host Villarreal on Sunday evening at the San Mames Stadium.

Athletic Bilbao

The hosts have a solid record at home remaining six games unbeaten in all competitions, while sitting seventh in La Liga, but from their last five they have only won one. Ernesto Valverde’s last match finishing in a bore draw away to Espanyol, I mean 0-0 may have been not the most thrilling result, but an important point to say the least.

Like Villarreal, Bilbao are playing in the Europa League and it would be safe to say it hasn’t been easy. Los Leones sits second in their group and remain one point off top spot and off the bottom of the table. How tight is that?!

Yet, one player I am looking forward to seeing on the weekend will be striker Aritz Aduriz. The Spanish attacker has been in sensational form considering he is reaching the near end of his career; netting five goals in nine games so far this season, as well as scoring 20 last campaign and going to Euro 2016 with Spain. He is a classic fox in the box having scored two goals against Villarreal last season in four games.

One concern is that four players sit out injured for the home side, while defender Mikel Balenziaga is suspended for this clash on the weekend. Valverde also likes to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation, so expect no surprises there on Sunday.

Villarreal fans will be beaming at the moment considering they sit third in La Liga and only five points off the top spot. Right about now it’s just about keeping up the pressure and not letting this slip from their grasps. Fran Escriba will be hoping for better from his team though considering they have only won two of their last five matches in all competitions.
The visitors’ last match ending in a 2-0 win at home to Real Betis; Roberto Soriano scoring the second to secure the win and continue their good home form.

However, a massive concern for the away side has been their form on the road. The Yellow Submarine has not won a match from their last five away fixtures in all competitions, and have only won two so far this season. So this is a big problem for Escriba at the moment.

But you look at their squad, especially strike-force, and you wonder how? It is a similar squad to the ones who made the Europa League semi-finals last year with Cedric Bakambu, but on top of this they have added Alexandre Pato the team as well as midfielder Soriano who is already paying back the chunk in his transfer fee hitting up an average rating of 7.04.

Strangely it seems Villarreal like to set-up with a flat 4-4-2, which seems to be a dying art in the modern game. But I just wonder whether they will get overrun in the midfield as only three players sit out injured including striker Roberto Soldado.

The last time these two sides met in Basque Country the game finished 0-0, and before that Bilbao won 1-0 away from home. In fact, Villarreal has not won in Bilbao since 2011; losing three of their last five meetings. So it really doesn’t help their cause considering their away form this season has been below average.

This is a difficult one to call. I can honestly see it ending in a draw because both teams will be tight at the back wanting to keep up their good run. Especially with where they are sitting in the table. Yet, I can see Athletic pipping in and grabbing a result, especially with Aduriz up top. But my instinct is telling me to back unders!

Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Sunday 23rd October by @tashason21

Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao – Santiago Bernabéu at 19:45 live on Sky Sports 1

My next Asian Handicap betting preview focuses on the game between Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.

[expand title=”Read More…” swaptitle=”Hide” trigpos=”below” rel=”star-highlander” ]

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are currently 2nd in the La Liga table, joint on 18 points with Atletico Madrid who are top.

In La Liga the hosts haven’t lost a single game as yet, winning 5 and drawing 3 of their fixtures.

Last weekend Real Madrid beat Real Betis 6-1 away from home. A brace from Isco and 1 goal each scored by Varane, Benzema, Marcelo and Ronaldo sealed the victory, which broke a run of 4 games without a win (across all competitions) for the home side.

Midweek Real Madrid took on Legia Warsaw at the Bernabeu in the Champions League and won 5-1. Bale, Asensio, Vazquez and Morata all got on the scoresheet and a Warsaw own goal added to the away side’s woes!

In La Liga Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are Madrid’s top scorers, with 3 goals each to their name. Madrid provide a threat from all areas of the pitch however and so Bilbao will need to have their wits about them if they are going to get anything out of this game.

Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao had a good season last campaign, finishing 5th in La Liga. The visitors are currently 6th in La Liga and have started the new season well.

Bilbao have won 5, drawn none and lost 3 of their La Liga games so far and are currently on a good run of form, having only lost 1 of their last 6 games (2-1 defeat to Malaga on October 2nd).

Last weekend Athletic Bilbao beat Real Sociedad 3-2, with Muniain, Aduriz and Iñaki Williams all getting on the scoresheet.

Aritz Aduriz has scored the most La Liga goals for his side this season (5) and he’ll be the danger man on Sunday.

Despite their good form, on Thursday Bilbao took on Genk in the Europa League and lost 2-0 at the Cristal Arena. The away side will therefore be looking to bounce back against Madrid and I believe they have the ability to cause Los Blancos some problems.

Although Bilbao are travelling to the Bernabéu, I think they are value when backed +2 on the Asian Handicap market. Real Madrid are winless in 2 league matches at home and Bilbao have shown they can compete against some on the top sides in La Liga this season, as proved by their impressive 3-1 win over Sevilla at the end of September. I am expecting a close game and as a result, backing the away side +2 looks a decent bet.

Sevilla v Athletic Bilbao Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Thurs 14th April by @tashason21

Sevilla v Athletic Bilbao – Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium at 20:05 live on BT Sport 2

Last week, these 2 Spanish sides faced each other in the 1st leg of this Europa League clash and the match ended 2-1 to Sevilla. However, the away side had to come from a goal down as Aritz Aduriz gave Bilbao an early lead, although goals from Timothee Kolodziejczak and Vicente Iborra soon turned the match on its head!

[expand title=”Read More…” swaptitle=”Hide” trigpos=”below” rel=”star-highlander” ]

Both sides have been struggling in La Liga all season and so although Sevilla have won this competition for the last 2 years, both clubs have a decent chance of progressing to the next round! In fact, Sevilla’s Europa League victory last week was their 1st away win against a Spanish side all season!

Last weekend however, Sevilla travelled to Valencia and lost 2-1 in La Liga which sums up the inconsistency that has plagued them all season. Kevin Gameiro scored the goal for Sevilla and he is likely to be their biggest goalscoring threat, having scored 23 goals across all competitions so far this campaign.

Athletic took on Rayo Vallecano on Sunday and won 1-0, with Iñaki Williams scoring the only goal. Despite this result, Athletic have won just 1 of their last 5 matches and have particularly struggled away from the San Mamés Stadium.

Iñaki Williams

Iñaki Williams

The away side have also been dealt an injury blow as defender Aymeric Laporte, who has recently caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, is likely to miss the game through injury.

Although Sevilla haven’t shown the form of previous seasons this campaign, they do hold an extremely good home record, winning 17 of their last 18 home games in all competitions, including wins over Barcelona and Real Madrid.

With a top 4 spot in La Liga now looking increasingly unlikely, Sevilla know that the best chance they have of guaranteeing themselves Champions League football next season is to win the Europa League. Unai Emery’s side are 12 points off Villarreal in 4th spot and are currently 7th in La Liga, just behind their opposition Athletic Bilbao.

When these 2 sides met back in January, Sevilla won 2-0 and in light of the home side’s great form at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, I recommend backing Sevilla -0.5 on the Asian Handicap betting market.
