The Citizens look to be shaping up well under new boss Pep Guardiola and they’ve been rather busy this transfer window. The signings of Gundogen (Dortmund) and Nolito (Celta Vigo) have surely excited Man City fans, but their newest recruit is perhaps the most exciting prospect yet, with 20 year old Leroy Sane joining the club for a fee of £37m from Schalke.
The young winger is set to boost City’s attacking options in midfield, with Sane scoring 9 goals across all competitions for Schalke last season.
Manchester City have only played 2 pre-season matches, as their game against Manchester United was cancelled due to the poor condition of the pitch in China, which had been affected by bad weather.
So far City have had a mixed bag of results, although they were victorious over Borussia Dortmund in the International Champions Cup by means of a penalty shootout, which took place after the game finished 1-1 in normal time. Sergio Aguero scored City’s only goal, despite recent criticism surrounding his weight and slightly larger physique!
In their other game, Pep’s men lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in a friendly and so they’ll be desperate to get back to winning ways against Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Speaking of the Gunners, they’ve been rather quiet this transfer window, with their only notable recruit being Granit Xhaka, who signed from Borussia Mönchengladbach for £34m.
Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette has been a target for Wenger, although Arsenal did have a bid of £29m rejected for the striker, who scored 23 goals for Lyon across all competitions last season. There are rumours however that Wenger has been given the go ahead from the club to continue his pursuit of Lacazette, as well as Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi.
In terms of results, Arsenal have had an excellent pre-season tour to date and on Friday evening thrashed Norwegian side Viking 8-0 in a friendly. Alex Iwobi and Joel Campbell each scored a brace, whilst Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott, Chuba Akpom and a Haukas own goal filled up the rest of the scoresheet. Wenger’s men have also beaten MLS All-Stars (2-1) and Chivas Guadalajara (3-1) and their only draw came against Lens (1-1).
Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez both made the squad for the tour of Scandinavia, with the latter having recovered from a nasty ankle injury which saw him leave the field in the final of the Copa America.
On Sunday, I think we will see a competitive tie with not much between the 2 sides. However, as Arsenal have had more game time that City and are unbeaten in their pre-season tour to date, I recommend backing the Gunners Draw No Bet at 2.20 which looks value.
