Chelsea vs Real Madrid: Chelsea Wins 2-0 to Reach Champions League Final

On Wednesday at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory against Real Madrid in their semifinal second leg. The Chelsea vs Real Madrid win is a memorable one because Chelsea will be participating in their first Champions League final since 2012. It’s all thanks to football players Timo Werner and Mason Mount.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Game Recap

The Blues currently have a 3-1 aggregate win against the Spanish Giants. Chelsea showed a superb performance, and Real Madrid was not able to keep up. Although Werner had been struggling, when he drifted into an offside position, he didn’t miss when Havertz’s lob over Courtois bounced back off the crossbar and onto his head 2 yards out.

Real Madrid did their best and had their chances in the first half with the help of Karim Benzema. However, two times he was blocked by Chelsea’s goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. After the interval, it showed that Chelsea was the one who was more likely to score what could’ve been the tie’s decisive fourth goal. However, Mason Mount could not score after a fine backheel by Werner and instead blazed the ball over Courtois’ crossbar.

Because of Chelsea’s impressive play, Real Madrid was struggling to make any further opportunities. This paved the way for Chelsea to start the second half stronger with Havertz hitting the bar again. Moreover, Zinedine Zane gave returnee Eden Hazard a start at his former club. However, the Belgium player had little impact on the contest.

For Thomas Tuchel’s club, they continued to create chances. With five minutes remaining, Pulistic passed the ball to Mount, who smashed it home from close range.

Chelsea to Participate in the Champions League Final

With their historic win, Chelsea has now become the first club to have both the men and women teams reach the Champions League Final. Chelsea’s men’s team will play against Manchester City in Istanbul on 29 May 2021. This will be a second all-English Champions League final in two seasons.

According to Tuchel, “We deserved to win. The first half was difficult; they had a lot of possession and made us suffer. In the second half, we could have scored so much earlier, so much more to be safe, but now is no time for criticism. It is a fantastic achievement and big congratulations to the team.”

He further stated, “It is not done yet. We want to go all the way; we arrive in Istanbul to win.”

On their loss, Real Madrid’s Zidane stated, I think the system was clear: We played with three at the back and two wing-backs. We’ve played a lot of games like that. It didn’t turn out well — we lost a lot of duels. We lacked something, yes, but we tried, and that’s football.

“The players who played were OK to play. At the end of the game, we lacked some gas. Vinicius played two games there. I remember against Getafe — he’s a player who can do it.”
