Ranking 5 of the Best NBA Fanbases

Published

on

Every NBA team has legions of fans. However, not all fanbases are created equal. The cliche that everybody loves a winner is not applicable among these fanbases—they stick with their beloved teams even when the times are not so great.

Below are the best NBA fanbases of all-time.

#5 Los Angeles Lakers

There is one great thing about the Lakers’ fans: attendance. They are so good at it they made Kobe Bryant felt special in so many ways. Case in point: they filled 99.7% of the arena on Bryant’s farewell season.

Even in the 2016-17 NBA season when the Lakers weren’t doing great, the fans still had a 99.2% attendance rate.

The team is the most liked NBA team on social media. It has 22 million and 4.2 million followers on Facebook and Twitter, respectively.

#4 San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs fans’ dedication is noticeable—there are good years in terms of attendance. As such, the fandom consistently appears in the best NBA fans list.

In a market study, the Nielsen Scarborough conducted, about 69% of San Antonio residents identify themselves as a fan. They either watched or listened to a game or attended a game.

Also, the team has excellent social media following at 5.5 million followers on Facebook alone. It was more than twice the population of the city.

#3 Chicago Bulls

Since Michael Jordan left the Bulls in 1998, things have changed. The team only won five playoffs and one Eastern Conference Finals appearance.

However, the Bulls’ fanbase remains to be one of the most loyal and dedicated, finishing at either no. 1 or 2 positions in home attendance percentage starting 2010. Even at the bleakest moment, the fans filled the entire United Center.

They kept the team’s standing in the top ticket sales for the full. The fans also voted the Bulls as 0ne of the Top NBA Franchises.

#2 Portland Trail Blazers

If there’s one word to describe the Blazers’ fanbase that would be good sports. The team hasn’t won any championship since 1978 or a conference title since 1993. But still, the unwavering support of the fans did not diminish a bit.

Fans’ expectations are high especially after appearing in the Western Conference Finals against Golden State Warriors in 2018.

The Rip City fanbase ranks one of the top five fanbases in home attendance since 2011. True enough, they did not abandon the team even when its performance gets from worse to the worst season after season.

#1 Dallas Mavericks

Mavericks fans dominate the attendance counts since 2003. The fanbase has the longest sellout streak with 588 games.

One of the instrumental figures in the growing popularity of the franchise was Mark Cuban himself, the team owner. It started in 2000 when he regularly appeared courtside as a savvy Mav fan.

With this, the Mavericks was once a woeful team until it became one of the NBA greats. Part of their success was all thanks to their ever-loyal fans. If one saw how the fans swarmed the streets during their victory parade in 2011, it’s easy to understand how intense the Mavs fans are.
