Southampton v Inter Milan Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Thursday 3rd November by @tashason21

Southampton v Inter Milan – St. Mary’s Stadium at 20:05 live on BT Sport 2

Southampton take on Inter Milan for the second time in the Europa League group stage and this game is the focus of my latest Asian Handicap betting preview. A few weeks ago at the San Siro, Southampton lost 1-0 as a result of a goal scored by Antonio Candreva.

Southampton

Southampton were unlucky to lose against Inter last time round, after missing a host of good chances. The Saints will be confident of a result on Thursday however, as they’ve been unplayable on home soil at times this season.

Claude Puel’s side suffered their first home defeat of the 2016/17 campaign across all competitions against Chelsea (2-0) last weekend. Prior to this loss, Southampton were undefeated at St Mary’s in 14 home games, which is very impressive.

The Saints have had a decent start in the Premier League and are currently 9th in the table. Puel will want to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Chelsea against Hull City on Sunday and therefore it is difficult to predict how strong a team he will put out against Inter.

Charlie Austin has been the key man for the Saints and has scored 7 goals across all competitions this season, including a brace in their 3-0 win at home to Sparta Prague in the Europa League back in September. With Shane Long out injured, Austin is likely to start and he’ll be the man that will cause Inter problems.

In the Europa League, Southampton sit 3rd in Group K on 4 points with a W1, D1, L1 record to date. The group is extremely tight however, with opponents Inter sitting bottom with 3 points and Sparta Prague are top with 6 points.

Southampton have been struggling to convert their chances of late and as a result, have won just 2 of their last 7 games across all competitions. The home side are very much in need of 3 points against Inter on Thursday, otherwise they could be in danger of missing out on the knockout stages.

Charlie Austin & Southampton celebrate

Inter Milan

A few days ago Inter Milan sacked manager Frank de Boer after just 85 days in charge. Inter are therefore in disarray, as the search for a new manager continues.

The away side have had a poor start to the season and sit 12th in Serie A. They’ve won 4, drawn 2 and lost 5 of their league matches to date and most recently suffered a 1-0 defeat away to 14th placed Sampdoria in Serie A.

Inter have lost 4 of their last 5 matches in the Italian league and their sole win during this period was against Torino (2-1) a few weeks ago.

Matters have also been made worse for the club in the past month as a result of the Icardi scandal.

Despite the negativity surrounding Icardi, he’s definitely the danger-man and has scored 8 goals in 14 appearances so far this season. Icardi most recently bagged a brace against Torino.

Inter need to avoid defeat against Southampton to remain in with a chance of qualifying for the knock-out stage and even taking all of their issues into account, I believe they’ve still got the quality to cause the Saints problems.

Conclusion

Southampton’s home form is undeniably strong, but Inter will still pose a threat at St Mary’s due to the quality they possess in their squad. As Puel’s side are solid at home, they should get the win, although I am also expecting both teams to score. Today I think there is better value on the Asian Total Goals market and therefore I recommend backing over 2.25 goals, as I think we’ll be seeing more goals in this fixture than we did last time round.

West Ham v Southampton Asian Handicap Betting Preview – 25th September by @tashason21

West Ham v Southampton – London Stadium at 16:00 live on Sky Sports 1

I’ve had a profitable few weeks and I will be looking to continue this run on Sunday as West Ham take on Southampton in the Premier League.

[expand title=”Read More…” swaptitle=”Hide” trigpos=”below” rel=”star-highlander” ]

West Ham

West Ham have had a terrible start to the season, which has come as a surprise to many who were expecting The Hammers to push on from the success of last campaign. After a 7th place Premier League finish last season, expectations were subsequently raised, although Slaven Bilic’s side are noticeably struggling at present.

The Hammers have lost their last 3 consecutive league games and 4 out of their opening 5 in total. West Ham have been defensively poor and a few weeks ago suffered a 4-2 home defeat against Watford, after taking a 2-0 lead!

West Ham have only kept 1 clean sheet, whilst conceding 13 league goals so far this season, a run of form which has seen them slip down to 18th in the Premier League table.

A narrow 1-0 victory against Bournemouth saw The Hammers pick up their first and only win of the season, but The Cherries were playing with 10 men towards the end of the game. Antonio scored the winning goal that day and he is currently West Ham’s top-scorer with 5 league goals to his name.

Last weekend The Hammers suffered a 4-2 defeat to West Brom, a team which don’t tend to score many goals, which once again highlights the home side’s defensive flaws.

Bilic’s men were also very lucky mid-week, as they beat Accrington Stanley 1-0 late on to remain in the EFL Cup. Dimitri Payet scored a 96th minute free-kick which sealed the victory, but only just!

Southampton

Last weekend Southampton got their first 3 points of the new campaign with a 1-0 victory over Swansea. Charlie Austin is starting to show some form and scored his first Premier League goal of the season last weekend and his 4th goal in total. Fellow striker Shane Long is yet to get off the mark in any competition to date.

Southampton beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in the EFL Cup mid-week, with Charlie Austin and Jake Hesketh getting on the scoresheet.

The Saints are currently winless away from home however and they’ll be hoping they can change this by getting a result against a side that are evidently struggling at present.

Although it may seem Southampton have been finding life tough on the road, they have had 2 of the toughest away fixtures at Manchester United (2-0) and Arsenal (2-1). A trip to the London Stadium is definitely a good opportunity to take away all 3 points by comparison!

Southampton have scored in 4 out of their 5 league games this season and if West Ham defend the same way they have done in recent weeks, expect to see more goals from the Saints.

Claude Puel’s side have also kept a clean sheet in their last 3 matches across all competitions and so it may take a moment of quality from The Hammers to break down Southampton’s defence.

Conclusion

West Ham have been playing poorly of late and although Southampton having been getting the results, their performances haven’t been as bad as their league position (14th) suggests. The Hammers are certainly under pressure but even so, I am expecting Southampton to get a narrow win on Sunday. If West Ham have sorted out their defence however, a draw is also a possibility in what will no doubt be a close game. I recommend backing under 2.5 goals on Sunday as a narrow 1-0 win for Southampton or a low-scoring draw will return full profit.

Premier League Asian Handicap Betting Previews – Sat 13th August by @tashason21

Middlesbrough v Stoke – Riverside Stadium at 15:00

The Premier League is back this weekend and Stoke travel to newly promoted Middlesbrough, with both sides looking to bag all 3 points in the first game of the season.

[expand title=”Read More…” swaptitle=”Hide” trigpos=”below” rel=”star-highlander” ]

Last May Aitor Karanka’s Boro managed to get their hands on an automatic promotion spot, although it was a nervy end to the season for Boro fans as they were promoted ahead of Brighton only on goal difference.

Karanka has been a very busy man this transfer window and has managed to secure the signature of some big names. Midfielders Marten de Roon (Atalanta), Viktor Fischer (Ajax) and Gaston Ramirez (Southampton) have signed for the club, as well as defenders Antonio Barragan (Valencia), Bernardo Espinosa (Sporting Gijon) and goalkeeper Victor Valdes (Man United). Perhaps the most significant signing to date however is striker Alvaro Negredo, who has come on loan from Valencia.

In terms of pre-season results, Boro have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their games, but regardless of these results, Karanka has certainly built a well equipped side with enough talent to enable Boro to stay up this season.

As for Stoke, they had another good season in the Premier League last time round, finishing in 9th place and just 2 places below Europa League qualification.

Mark Hughes hasn’t been as busy as Karanka this transfer window, but has strengthened his squad through the signings of Joe Allen (Liverpool) and winger Ramadan Sobhi (Ahly).

Stoke have seen a mixed bag of pre-season results, having won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their matches, although it’s difficult to judge a team based on pre-season results.

Newly promoted Boro will be eager to win their first match back in the Premier League since 2009, especially in front of their home fans and I think we’re in for an entertaining game. With both sides pushing for a win on the opening day of the season, I think we will see some goals and therefore I recommend backing over 2 goals @ 1.90, which looks value.

Southampton v Watford – St Mary’s Stadium at 15:00

Southampton start the season under a new manager (Claude Puel) after Ronald Koeman’s departure, as do Watford, who have replaced Quique Sanchez-Flores with Walter Mazzarri. Both bosses will therefore be looking to kick off their Premier League campaign with a win.

It will be interesting to see how Southampton follow up their 6th place finish from last season, especially seen as they have lost 2 key players in Saido Mane and Graziano Pelle, not to mention a quality manager in Koeman.

The Saints have brought in 2 new arrivals of their own however in Nathan Redmond (Norwich) and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Bayern Munich), the latter of whom has really got Southampton fans excited.

In terms of pre-season games, Southampton have looked impressive and are undefeated having won 5 and drawn 1 of their 6 pre-season ties.

Last campaign, Watford had a good first season back in the top flight and finished 13th in the league table. Despite this, Watford’s owners felt that Quique Sanchez-Flores wasn’t the right man to take the club forward and subsequently the buck has been passed to Mazzarri. The Italian manager has a good CV, having managed both Napoli and Inter Milan, so it will be interesting to see how he fares in the Premier League, which will be uncharted territory.

The strike partnership of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo caught many peoples attention last term, although the pair struggled to find the net in the second half of the season and subsequently the Hornets suffered, only managing to win 4 out of their 20 games.

Watford have done well to keep hold of both their strikers and even turned down a £40m bid from China for Odion Ighalo, which astonished football fans around the world, even Watford fans themselves!

The Hornets have been relatively quiet this transfer window by their usual standards, although they have brought in a few notable faces such as young striker Isaac Success (Granada), Brice Dja Djédjé (Marseille) and Camilio Zuniga (loan from Napoili). However, on Wednesday Mazzarri stated in his press conference that he is looking to bring in 3 additional players before the transfer window closes.

As for the result of the game, I am expecting Southampton to get the win as they’ve been playing well on their pre-season tour. The Saints are also hard to beat at home and I am expecting to see goals, so therefore I recommend backing over 2.5 goals at 2.15.
