The Greatest NFL Players Throughout the Decades

The National Football League (NFL) has had its fair share of famous players. The sport is known for its tackles and amazing throws, which keep the audience at the edge of their seats. From head concussions to broken bones, the NFL is no joke.

With such a daunting sport, we can only imagine how difficult it is for NFL players to come on top. The amount of dedication and hard work that’s put into playing it has produced iconic and legendary players that will be remembered throughout history.

Here is a list of some of the most successful NFL players of all time taken from reliable sources.

Jim Brown

If we are talking about the most exceptional players, then Jim Brown will always be at the top of the list. He is considered one of the greatest running backs that the NFL has ever seen. He played for nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns and retired in 1965. He is also known as the only running back who holds the record for having an average of 100 rushing yards per game throughout his career. In the 1996 Pro Bowl, he scored three touchdowns. Brown was also the league MVP three times and claimed eight rushing titles with an impressive 12,312 yards.

Tom Brady

Brown will always be an icon, but Tom Brady has blown the NFL away with his impressive record: 14x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro, 6x SB Champ, and 3x MVP, among others. According to ESPN 5, he has had 219 regular-season wins. Brady also ranks 2nd in the NFL All-Time Pass TDs Leaders with an amazing 541 touchdown passes. This New England Patriots quarterback has been to the Superbowl for almost half of the seasons that he played in the NFL. At 42 years old, he threw for 4,057 yards and has won at least 12 games.

Jerry Rice

Another one of the greats, Rice, is a household name in the NFL. As a wide receiver, he holds a record of eight SB touchdown catches and is considered by the NFL as the all-time leader in receptions (1,549), receiving touchdowns (208), and receiving yards (22,895), according to the Pro-Football Hall of Fame. He was also a 13 time Pro Bowl selection. The 2011 Seattle Seahawks player has played for 20 seasons and has over 100 NFL records!

Walter Payton

Nicknamed “Sweetness,” Payton of the Chicago Bears was the fourth player selected in the National Football League Draft in 1975. The running back has played for 10 seasons in the NFL. From 1976 to 1980, he held the rushing title and even won the NFL kickoff return championship during his rookie campaign. He was also considered as the first running back in league history to have had at least ten 1,000-yard rushing seasons throughout his career.

Those are just some of the NFL players who have made their mark. I mean, who wouldn’t want to bet on them.
