JJ Watt’s NFL Free Agency: Several NFL Teams Looking to Sign Him Up

Earlier this month, NFL player JJ Watt was granted his release from Houston and, thus, becoming a sought after NFL free agency. Several teams are vying for this veteran defensive end’s talents. Watt, 31, has had a good 2020 season. He only had just five sacks in 16 games. This is even more impressive because of the fact that Watt has dealt with health problems for the better part of five seasons. With this demand for Watt, the NFL season is bound to be great this year. Online bookmakers, bettors and NFL fans are in for a treat as the games get more exciting.

Who is JJ Watt?

Many of the teams want Watt because of his impressive records. He has three Defensive Player of the Year awards, which ties him or the most in NFL history with Aaron Donald and Lawrence Taylor. Watt also set the Texan’s franchise records in 101.0 sacks,172 tackles for loss, 282 quarterback hits, and 25 forced fumbles. He also has 531 total tackles, 16 fumble recoveries and 61 passes defensed. Additionally, Watt is the only player in NFL history with 20+ sacks and 10+ passes defensed in the same season, which are 2012 and 2014. With six regular-season touchdowns, he also ties him fifth among defensive linemen in league history. Lastly, he is the fourth-fastest player to reach 100 sacks in NFL history.

As an NFL free agency, where will Watt sign?

There are dozens of teams who want Watt as one of their players, but three teams may be in the lead, according to NFL insider John Clayton. These are the Packers, Bills, and Titans. But the Browns and Raiders are also still contenders.

According to Clayton, “People are misinterpreting what I said on radio today. I said Tennessee, Green Bay and Buffalo were the leading teams for J.J. Watt but not the final three. Watt hasn’t narrowed his list. The Cleveland Browns are still in. So are the Raiders. He has a dozen teams after him.”

The Bills have been looking for a better pass-rush presence, and Watt can give that to them. It also doesn’t hurt that Watt has shown mutual interest in the team. He is an ideal fit since the Bills play four down linemen. This plays toward Watt’s strengths on the defensive line. On the other hand, for the Packers, this team is Watt’s home-state team and his favourite growing up. This NFL team is also in need of Watt’s free agency since they are looking for a strong defensive line help. Besides those teams, there’s also the Titans. Although it might come as a surprise to many, some reports state that the Titans are the current leader for Watt’s NFL free agency.

Because of the demand for his NFL free agency, Diana Russini of ESPN states that Watt could be in for a big payday.

According to Russini, “JJ Watt has received several offers from teams. The best offer he has received right now is between 15-16 million per year, per sources.”
