Naomi Osaka vs. Maria Sakkari To Headline Miami Open Quarterfinals

The unbeatable Naomi Osaka will be headlining the Miami Open quarterfinal slate. She will be against fellow famous tennis player Maria Sakkari.

If you’ve been in the tennis scene long enough, you’ll know what a legend Osaka is. She has won 23 consecutive matches and has an amazing 9-0 since the start of the Australian Open. When it comes to being a gold-standard, she never disappoints.

However, she is also up against one of the leading contenders for the event, Maria Sakkari. It seems like multiple sportsbooks will be quite busy when their match comes up.

Naomi Osaka vs. Maria Sakkari

Japanese tennis player Maria Osaka extended her winning streak to a 23rd match, which moved her into the Miami Open quarter-finals for the first time. Osaka remains unbeaten. She is known for claiming the US Open and Australian Open titles. She has also won in straight sets 6-3 6-3 against Belgium’s tennis player Elise Mertens.

However, her opponent Sakarri is no easy player either. Maria Sakkari saved six match points in her last match against Jessica Pegula. She won a 6-4 2-6 7-6 (8-6) victory after converting her first match point. Additionally, her performance for this season was incredible. Although she still failed to reach a final in 2021, she’s beaten quite a few skilled tennis players. You have Sofia Kenin, Madison Keys, Garbiñe Muguruza and Angelique Kerber. There are only some players who can match her shot-for-shot intensity and power.

The match against Naomi Osaka and Maria Sakarri will surely be one memorable event. Osaka owns a 3-1 head-to-head advantage over Sakkari, but she often needs three sets to finish the job. Moreover, Sakkari’s ability to rip the ball off the court can cause problems for Osaka.

Other Tennis Players Advancing in Their Matches

Aside from Osaka, Australian world number one Ashleigh Barty will also be advancing to the Miami Open quarterfinal slate. She beat Victoria Azarenka of Belarus. She won 6-1 1-6 6-2 against the 2020 US Open finalist. This will be the first time Barty will be playing an overseas tournament in more than a year because of the pandemic.

You also have Bianca Andreescu, Canada’s 2019 US Open champion, who beat Garbiñe Muguruza in a 3-6 6-3 6-2 win. The 20-year-old Andreescu is only playing her third tournament since 2010 September. This is due to her injury struggles. She will now be facing Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain for a place in the semifinals.
