The world No. 1 female tennis player Ashleigh Barty beat fellow French Open champion Iga Swiatek on Monday 7-5, 6-4. Barty is now set to play in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 event. Moreover, Swiatek’s defeat brings an end to her 9-match unbeaten run on red clay. For Barty, on the other hand, her winning streak has increased to 14 matches on the surface.

After the match, Ashleigh Barty stated in an interview, “I really enjoyed myself out there tonight. I enjoyed the challenge. Iga’s game is exceptional. It’s really, really impressive. I love testing myself and trying to figure out the puzzle tonight and the challenges that she created for me.”

She further stated, “I love the way that she plays. I love the way she takes the game on. She plays without fear. I think the way she controls the court, has the ability to move and neutralize from defensive position is very, very impressive.”

Ashleigh Barty vs Iga Swiatek Highlights

Both players are known for their amazing performances. Barty won at Roland Garros last 2019, while Swiatek clinched her first major title in Paris last year. They are the current favourites for the French Open next month, which means that for bettors, you should definitely keep track of their matches in the sports betting market

The match at the Manolo Santana stadium was far from straightforward. Ashleigh Barty rallied from a slow start and focused on her serve. In the first set, the Australian player served at 6-5 and went down 15-30. But, she was able to hit two forehand winners. For the second set, she served at 5-4 and began with another forehand winner and finished it with two unreturnable serves.

Poland player Swiatek went up 3-0 and threatened the Aussie player’s serve in the fourth game again. But, Barty was unfazed. Swiatek made just 46% of her first serves and double-faulted at six times. For Barty’s part, she won nearly 80% of her first serves in the match. She was also able to raise her first-serve percentage from 46 to 65% in the second set.

Barty to Face Petra Kvitova

The Aussie tennis player will now face No. 9 seed Petra Kvitova, a three-time Madrid champion, for a place in the semis. Kvitova beat Russian player Veronika Kudermetova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

“I love to play Petra. I do. She brings out the best in me… It’s another challenge, another test. She’s won this tournament multiple times, loves the conditions here. A fresh challenge for me. We go into it like any other match, try and execute as best we can, whoever does that better on the day will come out on top,” Ashleigh Barty said.

On Barty, Kvitova stated, “We played on clay, but it was many, many years ago, so I’m not counting then. She has a game for clay. She’s sliding. She’s playing lots of slice and everything… She likes clay a little bit more than me probably. I like Madrid. So who knows, right?

“Always playing Ash, it’s great challenge. It will be a great matchup. I really will enjoy it. I’m really looking forward for it.”
